DIY: Tulle Wedding Skirt/Tutu

How great is the idea of having a tulle skirt that you can put over a dress and turn it into a wedding dress? It's a lot more affordable than buying a tulle wedding dress, and you get two dresses in one. The tulle skirt can be worn for the ceremony, then taken off for the reception. They have tulle wedding skirts that retail on Etsy.com for around $150, which is affordable, but I wanted to show you how to do it yourself for even less. Enjoy!

Materials:

You may need 2 or 3 rolls of 100 yard tulle, depending on how puffy you want it.

I would recommend you get ribbon that coordinates with the color of tulle you're using, and get a 2 to 3" width so when you tie it in the front it will look nice. I offer ribbon sashes in my etsy store, Events By Tammy, that would be perfect for this.

Satin Double Sided 2.25 Inch Ribbon Sash, White, Black, Ivory, Antique White, Silver, Navy, Gold, Turquoise, Blush $12

I found this no sew tutu tutorial video on youtube. All you have to do is adjust the length to about 6 or 7 feet per tulle strip to make it long enough to hit the ground with your heels on.

Dresses

Here are some dresses that would be perfect to turn into a wedding dress. Take the skirt off and you have a reception dress!

  2. Gifts International has 100 yards rolls of 6 inch tulle for only $3.40. I'm not sure about shipping though.

    1. Shipping is actually cheap I ordered 300 yards of 6 in. tulle and 300 yards of quarter in. ribbon for something else and shipping was five bucks. The tulle is nice and not scratchy too.

  3. This is an excellent alternative to spending hundreds of dollars on a wedding dress! My sister is getting married in a few months, and she is stressing out about being able to cover her wedding expenses. Hopefully I can help take some of the stress away with this how to make a tutu video which provides a more affordable option for a wedding dress.
